Job Description

This is a very exciting new role that would ideally suit a charismatic, creative and ambitious statistician looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to develop a whole range of new skills to complement their statistical expertise. The business development manager will play a pivotal role in the future development and success of the company and is a strategic appointment intended to help accelerate the growth of our already highly-successful organisation.

The post will focus on generating new business by identifying potential new clients and developing productive new relationships with them, but will also include identifying and pursuing project tendering opportunities and the more general development and implementation of the company’s marketing strategy. The post will also be responsible for maintaining existing client relationships, gathering feedback on our services and ensuring that we continue to exceed our client’s expectations in terms of the services and products that we deliver. The post-holder will lead our PR, outreach and social media strategies and will need to be a skilled communicator with a convincing passion for statistics and a clear understanding of the value of properly applied statistical techniques.

The post-holder will also be an active member of our consultancy team, spending about half of their time undertaking statistical consultancy work in order to develop, broaden and maintain their statistical knowledge and practical expertise.  Together, the consultancy team is responsible for delivering a whole range of statistical services to a wide range of public, private and third sector organisations. Recent projects include real-time filtering of financial time series, national survey design and analysis, predictive modelling of UK property characteristics from messy and incomplete data, modelling customer behaviour and predicting future retail sales, testing the effectiveness of veterinary treatments and surgical procedures, and modelling the habitats and population dynamics of the UK’s great crested newt population. No two projects are the same and the successful applicant will need to be able to quickly understand the statistical challenge that each project poses and apply the appropriate statistical methodology to provide the best solution.

This critical new role would suit a highly creative and charismatic individual with a passion for statistics and with the skills and experience to talk authoritatively about our products and services and the value that they can bring to our clients. We are looking for an experienced statistician with broad statistical knowledge and expertise together with the passion, ambition and potential to use those skills to create and exploit opportunities to win new business.

This is a unique and exciting role within a very dynamic and ambitious organisation. The post-holder will play a central role in shaping the company as it grows and will play a critical part in driving that growth by both identifying and realising opportunities to develop new business.
